Dasa maha vidhya(10 Maha Devi)  -  Ten Goddess

A very efficient and able administrative network , always indicate a strong administrator, singly and strongly holding charge, regardless of how big or small, the organization / unit is. The Chief Controller may not be in touch with each of his deputies but the policy decisions taken by the Chief will be implicitly be implemented by all his deputies automatically, as if the Chief is sitting in every place and functioning.

In our part of India, they will say that even in a kitchen , where there are several cooks working, the control should be with one single Chief Chef and not with two persons. If it is not done, the result may probably be “ No Salt “ or “ More Salt “.

An usual question Indian boys and girls ask during an interactive session in schools is , why should there be so many Gods and Goddesses in our religion unlike other religions , where there is always only one God. They are quite satisfied to hear the reply that in our system, God is everywhere and the power of God is centered from a single source and there are deputies for the God, for all connected perspectives like Ganesa for removing obstacles,Karthik for self protection, Saraswathi for Arts and Education, Lakshmi for wealth, Durga for rooting out the evil, Dhanvanthari for healthcare, Dakshinamurthy for knowledge, Hanuman for valour, etc., etc.,

This is how the entire Universe is being controlled in all ways, by the Goddess Lalita Parameswari as its supreme controller. Our scriptures describe this in great detail, as to how Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are given separate responsibilities. Besides the Trinity, Goddess Lalita Parameswari assumes several incarnations like Dasa Maha Vidyas , to suit to each occasion, as required. The word, Dasa Maha Vidya comes from the Sanskrit roots, with Dasa meaning “ Ten”, Maha meaning “great “ and Vidya meaning “ revelation, manifestation, knowledge or wisdom.

The ten Mahavidyas, or Wisdom Goddesses, represent distinct aspects of divinity, intent on guiding the spiritual seeker toward liberation. For the devotionally minded seeker. these forms can be approached in a spirit of reverence, love, and increasing intimacy. For a knowledge-oriented seeker, these same forms can represent various states of inner awakening along the path to enlightenment.

The Mahavidyas are Kali, Tara, Tripurasundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi, Chinnamasta, Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi, Matangi and Kamala. In Guwahati, there is a big Hill temple called Kamakhya, where all the ten Devathas are housed, with Bhuvaneswari in the top of the hill. Likewise, there are several temples in Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal for each one of the Dasa Maha Vidya Devathas. Let us try to know about each of the ten Mahavidyas , one by one , briefly, in these columns, in due course.
